Qipit White Turns Any iPhone Into Portable Scanner

October 31st, 2009

Qipit Inc. launches Qipit White Enabling 50 million iPhone Users to Clearly and Instantly Capture White Board Notes from the Conference Room to the Classroom

News Facts:

Qipit White makes any whiteboard an electronic whiteboard by turning your iPhone into a portable copy machine.

Just point at the whiteboard, paper board, flipchart or other large-format information, and take a photo of it. What is created is more than just a picture, it is an easy to read, share and print digital copy.

Qipit White, the first iPhone application that effectively turns any iPhone into a portable scanner for capturing white board notes from the conference room to the classroom.

Qipit White is the first of a series of smartphone applications from Qipit, Inc., the inventors of the mobile copy industry. Qipit White instantly converts the hard-to-read picture captured from the iPhone’s camera, removes unwanted shadows and glare, whitens the background and darkens the writing. The result is a fully transformed ink-on-white digital copy (PDF or JPEG) shareable via email right from the iPhone handset. The app is currently available at the Apple App store (http://itunes.com/app/white) for $4.99.

Qipit White lets anyone with an iPhone share that written image with colleagues, other students or parents, and friends, and save it for future reference.

Qipit White Benefits:

  • Saves time and preserves the flow of meetings, no need to rewrite information
  • Allows you to concentrate on listening rather than writing notes
  • Makes it easy to share and collaborate after the workshop, meeting or class
  • Integrates seamlessly with popular web services such as Evernote, Facebook and Twitpic.
  • Easily store, print and organize notes
  • Improves the accuracy of notes with exact copies
  • Creates an endless whiteboard (Never run out of space again)
  • No expensive extra equipment to buy, maintain and learn to operate
  • Much faster than printing on a traditional electronic whiteboard or copyboard.
  • Handset-based processing for immediate results

How Qipit White Works

iPhone users who have downloaded the Qipit White application simply point their iPhone at any whiteboard, paperboard, flipchart or anything else that contains large-size information they wish to capture.

Within seconds, Qipit White automatically cleans up the image and provides a crisp and clean, ink-on-white copy for the user to review.

The copy of the image remains on the phone where it can be uploaded to a computer for future reference, shared via email, as a PDF or JPEG file or it can be seamlessly uploaded to popular web services such as Evernote, Facebook and Twitpic.

Qipit White works with any iPhone model, running version 3.0 or higher, regardless of its camera resolution or the presence of an autofocus lens.

Immediacy and High Quality Image Capture Make Qipit White The Collaborator’s Choice

Unlike other applications that provide low-quality copies that can be difficult to read or print, Qipit White produces ultra sharp and clear color copies of most whiteboard photos. The application automatically corrects the photo from the camera, increasing contrast, removing unwanted shadows and glare, and whitening the background to create a professional looking, shareable and printable result (Read more on the Qipit transformation process). With its patented mobile copy engine that transforms photos directly on the handset, Qipit White provides immediate results so users can quickly and effectively turn their collaboration into actions.

Teaming “Touch” with “Tilt”: RealEyes3D Powers Motion-Based Navigation on Samsung Instinct

July 8th, 2008

(San Francisco, CA– July 8, 2008)Realeyes3D, a pioneer in mobile imaging applications and services for camera phones, and a trusted player in mobile document scanning with the award-winning Qipit service, today announced that its camera-based motion browsing technology (“tilt navigation”) has been incorporated into the Samsung Instinct, Sprint Nextel’s new smart phone now selling out in stores in the U.S. Motion browsing lets users tilt their phone to pan a webpage before clicking on a desired link. When used in combination with touch sliding navigation, as featured on the Apple iPhone, motion browsing provides one of the most intuitive and efficient ways to navigate web pages on small phone displays.

“Motion browsing, when used in combination with touch and tactile feedback technologies, represents the wave of the future in mobile devices,” said Benoit Bergeret, founder and CEO of Realeyes3D. “We believe we’ve created a new usability paradigm that effectively moves the mobile experience away from mimicking a PC’s keyboard and mouse, to one that is a direct extension of a user’s perceptual experience through motion and sense of touch. The Instinct is just the first of what we expect will be many mobile devices that will incorporate our technology in the coming months and years.”

Motion browsing Effectively Brings Large View Down To Size
Anyone who’s attempted to view full web pages on a typical mobile device is often frustrated by the limitations of the screen. Essentially it is like trying to fit a 15-19 inch screen into a 2-inch display. With motion browsing technology, the bridge from large to small becomes almost seamless. And unlike pure touch screen navigation, motion browsing avoids the missed clicks that are nearly impossible to avoid when touching the screen to navigate.

How It Works
Motion browsing uses the phone’s built-in camera to estimate the motion of the phone (“handset egomotion”) and translate it into commands for the browser to pan the web page that is being viewed. Because motion browsing uses thumbnail size images, it works regardless of the resolution of the camera. This design is a very compact solution that is easy to integrate into any phone, and very responsive to user movements. And because it does not need specific hardware such as an accelerometer or a gyroscope, motion browsing brings a powerful new interface paradigm to any camera phone, not restricting UI advances to the high-end, expensive phones.

Sold exclusively to handset manufacturers, motion browsing is available for all the major mobile web browsers, including but not limited to Teleca’s Obigo, and ACCESS NetFront Browser, as well as for proprietary browsers.

Motion Cortex, the technology behind motion browsing, and the winner of last year’s Mobile Monday Global Peer Awards (“Jury Favorite”), has been implemented in a variety of mobile applications such as image viewing, navigation, games, and can be integrated within any mobile user interface involving panning across a plane or a list.

Qipit Partners with eMail our Military to Help Families Share Documents, Memories

March 5th, 2008

San Francisco, CA (PRWeb) March 6, 2008 — Qipit (http://www.qipit.com), a free mobile online copy service that turns a camera phone or digital camera into a portable scanner, has partnered with eMail our Military (eMOM), (http://www.emailourmilitary.com) a nonprofit grassroots movement, to help families share precious memories and important documents with their service member stationed far from home. Qipit is helping eMOM train participating members how to use their camera phones or digital cameras to share everything from legal documents to children’s artwork and handmade greeting cards.

“When service members are deployed rapidly, they often are unable to complete all the necessary arrangements prior to a long absence,” says Trish Forant, president of eMOM. “There may be lease agreements, insurance documents or health records that need to be transmitted quickly. We were impressed at Qipit’s ability to lessen the frustration of handling some of the difficult details of daily life.”

Military families can use Qipit to scan an important personal document, quickly save it in a PDF format, and then email it to a family member stationed overseas or fax it to personnel at a U.S. military base.

In addition to scanning and transmitting documents, the free service can also be used to copy handwritten notes or little Johnny’s artwork. Forant adds that sharing an everyday moment or a special occasion can help ease the pain of separation.

Qipit transforms physical documents into scan-quality copies that users can securely store, print or conveniently share as digital documents on their computers and online. Qipit’s technology automatically removes glare, shadows, distortion and crops the picture resulting in a crisp, clean, highly legible ink-on-white digital document.

“We are always looking for innovative ways for people to use Qipit to help streamline their personal business and communicate with their loved ones,” said Conrad Hametner, vice president, consumer marketing for Qipit, Inc. “We are so pleased to collaborate with eMOM to provide this free service to our military families.”

Hametner stressed the ease of use of the free service. “Simply create a free account at Qipit.com, take a digital photo of a handwritten or printed document, then email it to Qipit or upload it on the Qipit Web site. Then wait just a few moments while Qipit cleans up the image and converts it to a PDF, then email or fax the PDF, or publish and share it online.”

Qipit has created Web site and blog badges to help eMOM promote the service among social networks where military families gather for support. For those who do not have a family member or friend in the military, eMom will match participants with individuals serving in the armed forces, in the tradition of the Any Service Member email and regular mail programs.

The organization is composed of volunteers from all walks of life who understand that regardless of our political views, our military service members deserve our respect, support & encouragement.

Qipit Replaces Fax, Scanners and Copiers

January 15th, 2008

Move Over Desktop Fax, Scanners and Copiers:
Qipit Pioneering New Technology for Camera Phones That Scans Text,
Improves Photo Quality in Same Document

San Francisco, CA – October 17, 2007 – For decades moving a document quickly from one person or office to the next meant scanning a document and emailing it at a PC or powering up the old fax machine. Now Qipit, the inventor of mobile scanning, is leading a Scan-on-Demand movement that is quickly making desktop scanners and fax machines obsolete. Qipit is a free online and mobile service that turns photos of handwritten or printed documents into clear, crisp digital copies. Today the company made yet another leap forward with the release of technology that maximizes the readability of scanned text and preserves the integrity of photographs in “qipit” copies.

Whether used for reports with graphs, magazine articles or real-estate fliers with pictures, Qipit is the first and only scan-on-demand service capable of converting photos of color documents into high fidelity copies. The company accomplishes this by combining patented ink extraction with automatic picture detection and enhancement. The result is vibrant, easy to read, easy to print color copies of documents that preserve all significant information from the original document.

“Consumers’ desire for color is what led to a color TV revolution, to the growth of the desktop publishing industry and an explosive growth in color printing, “said Conrad Hametner, Vice-President, consumer marketing, Qipit, Inc. “Now Qipit’s color scan-on-demand capabilities are shinning a bright light on the outmoded black and white fax machine.”

Already a crucial service for many mobile users, Qipit works with any digital camera or 1 mega pixel (or higher resolution) camera phone. Qipit’s mobile document acquisition capabilities can also be easily integrated into enterprise applications such as ERP, CRM and document management applications, filling a void and providing an additional, efficient new data stream into these powerful business systems, which are so often only fed with digital documents. With Qipit’s new technology, even information that was difficult to capture and transmit, such as white board and paper meeting notes, single-copy contracts or print articles can now be easily captured, stored and shared through enterprise IT infrastructure.

“Qipit has the potential to progressively reduce the need for fax machines and scanners,” said Ron Glaz, Program Director for IDC’s Digital Capture Devices and Photofinishing research. “Qipits mobile document acquisition now offers people the ability to create, acquire and share documents digitally in an environment that will change the way people share, understand and interact with their documents.”

“Mobile document acquisition frees us all from common faxes and scanners. Qipit gives consumers a mobile option for document sharing and collaboration that significantly simplifies their work and personal lives,” said Benoit Bergeret, CEO and president of Qipit, Inc. “We initiated the mobile copy revolution two and a half years ago at 3GSM 2005. Today we are unleashing the full potential of mobile document scanning; with high fidelity color capabilities, we are expanding the market potential dramatically, making mobile copying a reality even for the most demanding personal and professional users.”
